17 Oct Ideas are born in chaos!
Let me start by saying that I would usually be all for finding a quiet place, away from distractions in order to get stuff done. After all, everyone knows that you are supposed to be most productive in a serene setting. The thing is, since I started working full time from home, I’ve found that this theory is often absolute bogus!
Yes, I’ll admit, that I definitely need quiet in order to really concentrate on a task, especially when working with figures and when I need to be accurate the first time I do something. But when it comes to getting my creative juices flowing, nothing works as good as a little noise and activity. Usually, when I need to write or think or plan, I’ll take myself to a busy coffee shop and lose myself in the bustling activity but today my 4 year old has a friend over so there’s really no need to leave the house in order for me to find a little chaos! I write this while sitting at my kitchen table (I need to be able to keep at least half an eye on them!) and they are literally running rings around me! Going from room to room and just generally trashing the place and you know what, I’ve never had so many ideas come to me! I’m not sure whether it’s their creativity that’s flowing into me or just the fact that I’m finally letting my brain slow down but either way, I like it!
