To Share Or Not To Share

To Share Or Not To Share

It’s a truth that most people would hate to admit but ultimately, sharing is more fun than privacy.  The more that technology grows, the more privacy we lose and there is a massive arguement going on in the world today about it but really, if it came down to a choice of absolute privacy or sharing about our daily lives with those we love and care about, I know what many would choose.  What does this have to do with customer service you might wonder?  Well, think of it this way, with every purchase, your customer has a choice – do they tell or do they keep it private? Your job is to make this choice easy.  Make them want to shout about it from the rooftops (or from every social media platform they happen to be on)!

If you wow your customers enough, they will do the sharing for you.  But be warned, this is a double edged sword for they will also shout when things turn sour.  In fact, they are MORE likely to shout about bad than they are about good!

If you are like most small business and the category “PR Expenses” doesn’t exist in your accounts, then this is especially important for you, as your customers are your new PR department.  Only problem is, you have very limited control over what they say… So make your control count. When you stop thinking of your customers as a commodity to your business and instead, think of them as an integral part of it, you’ll naturally improve their experience.

Depending on your business, finding customers may be hard or perhaps come quite easily, but once they are through the door, it doesn’t matter how long it took to get them there.  All business owners then want (NEED) the same thing – for the customer to buy.  But not only buy, they want them to buy again, and again, and again.  And somewhere in there, they want that customer’s friend to buy.  And then that customer’s friend to buy. And then that customer’s friend to buy and so on.  And there is only one way for this to happen, for the first customer to share.  Share what an amazing product and or service they received.  Share how they want to come back again and again.  Share how they want everyone they care about to also experience this amazing product or service.

So it’s up to you, are you going to prove to your customers that you’re worth sharing or will they keep your transaction private?
